Fifth Disney Cruise Ship Named – Wish

Your wish is their command on every Disney Cruise Vacation. I find ‘wish’ to be an intriguing name to add to the current Disney fleet with the Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream & Fantasy. As you sail the high seas with luxurious service, surroundings & experiences you will have an unforgettable experience that will last a lifetime and the fifth Disney Cruise ship will be making wishes come true for many generations of families.

During the D23 Expo today, Bob Chapek was joined by Joe Rohde as he announced the name of the 5th Disney Cruise ship and also revealed a few details about the atrium and the iconic character that will adorn the ship’s stern.

The stern on the new ship will feature Rapunzel on the Disney Wish. Disney Parks Blog states ” Our favorite artsy princess, paintbrush in hand, uses her enchanted hair to suspend herself as she decorates the stern of the ship with the help of her feisty sidekick, Pascal. Spirited, smart, curious and above all, adventurous, Rapunzel embodies the wish and desire to see and experience the world. The stern on the new ship will feature Rapunzel on the Disney Wish.”

The ships atrium design is set to be bright, airy & elegant in true Disney fashion. The atrium has been inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale.

Although the Disney wish is scheduled for delivery to Disney in late 2021, it will not set sail until January 2022. Two more ships will following the coming years and all of the new ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas and will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream & Fantasy at approx 144,000 gross tons with 1,250 guest staterooms.

Further details were revealed about Disney’s private beach that is currently a work in progress. As previously announced, the location is on Eleuthera in the Bahamas and Disney’s private beach will be called Lighthouse Point. Joe Rohde is also spearheading the development of Lighthouse point and has been busy touring the culture of The Bahamas with local artist & experts. Joe has stated that Disney Will be involved in conservation efforts to preserve and protect the environment and is working to create a destination that immerses guests in Bahamian culture and Disney magic.

After assessments are done and plans are reviewed, construction could begin in 2020 with completion in late 2022 or 2023.

In total three new ships will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet. There will be magic for everyone and I am sitting on the edge of my seat to hear any new details on the ships & the ports that they will visit.

A New Theme Park is Coming to Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando is growing and has announced plans to add a fourth theme park. Universal Orlando currently consists of 2 theme parks, Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure and 1 water park, Volcano Bay. At this time, Universal Orlando has 7, going on, 8 resorts offering something for every family.

Although Universal Orlando has not announced an opening date range for the new theme park, they have released an official name “Epic Universe”. They say that the park will offer an experience genuinely worthy of its bold moniker.

Universal has stated that Epic Universe will offer an entirely new level of experiences that will forever redefine theme park entertainment. It will challenge guests to venture beyond their wildest imagination by traveling through stories & vibrant lands.

The new location will not only feature a theme park, but also include an entertainment center, hotels, shops, restaurants and more. Nothing has been announced about specific themes inside the park or any details on how the park tickets or hotels will be offered.

It appears that the new theme park will only be within driving distance from the current hotels & theme parks. I can only speculate that they will offer bus transportation from their resorts to the new theme park, but I can’t even begin to guess how they might handle transportation for guests who want to hop between all three theme parks in one day. The only thing I can guarantee is that I will be staying on top of the newest announcements so that I can help you plan your Epic Adventure.

This brand new tower will boast 545 new rooms and is located at the main entrance for Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.  Coronado Springs has also refurbished their existing 1800 rooms adding extra comfort to this Walt Disney World moderate hotel.

Additionally, a unique rooftop table service restaurant, Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, will open as part of Gran Destino Tower. 19 Experiences Coming to Walt Disney World in 2019

Disney has announced a list of 19 things to experience when you visit Walt Disney World in 2019.  Some are new, some are old & some are only offered for a limited-time.

When I read through this I noticed right away that certain experiences were missing.  Read through and I will tell you my thoughts at the end of the article.

Beginning January 8th:

Magic Kingdom

1. In honor of the true originals, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration will bring new music, dancing and all sorts of other fun to Magic Kingdom®
2. The new “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party” at Magic Kingdomwill invite you to dance with Mickey, Minnie and their pals in front of Cinderella Castle. Shake it along with live singers belting out new arrangements of classic “Mickey Mouse Club” songs.
3. The Dapper Dans and other entertainers on Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdomwill sing songs in honor of Mickey.
4. Look for special Mickey- and Minnie-themed merchandise and food at Magic Kingdomto make this party complete.
5. And this is a Surprise Celebration, after all, so you can expect more Limited-Time Magic entertainment and other experiences to pop up periodically around Magic Kingdom.

Hollywood Studios

6. The Incredibles are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios®! Pixar Avenue will transform into a Metroville city block, and Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone are throwing a party to celebrate.
7. Meet the one and only Edna Mode – the greatest super suit designer! She will set up a special location on Pixar Avenue showcasing some of her best creations (no capes!).
8. Show your #IncredibleSide along Pixar Avenue by striking a heroic pose in front of three-dimensional scenes straight out of Pixar Animation Studios’ Incredibles
9. Also on Pixar Avenue, look for clues to the whereabouts of the youngest Incredible, the mischievous and multi-powered Jack-Jack.
10. Elsewhere at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a door to the monster world will open inside Walt Disney Presents, where you’ll have a chance to meet Mike and Sulley from Pixar’s Monsters Inc.

Animal Kingdom

11. Celebrate the 25^thanniversary of Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Lion King” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® along with Timon and Rafiki in the “Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party” on Discovery Island. Let your inner animal roam free on the dance floor in this raucous party!
12. Also at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, have fun posing in front of special three-dimensional photo opportunities re-creating scenes from the animated classic.
13. The Epcot International Festival of the Arts is back! This year’s special event takes place Jan. 18 – Feb. 25, allowing you to indulge in world-class culinary and visual arts.
14. The Disney on Broadway concert series is expanding to seven days a week during the Festival of the Arts, so you’ll have even more opportunities to experience some Disney musical magic live on stage.

In all of the parks, later in the year

15. Welcome spring’s arrival with the Epcot®International Flower & Garden Festival, returning March 6 – June 3 with its wide selection of delectable bites at outdoor kitchens and dozens of Disney-themed topiaries blooming around the park.
16. Even better, this year’s Garden Rocks concert series expands, as well, to seven days a week during the Flower & Garden Festival, which means a total of 270 concerts over the course of the 90-day event.
17. Ka-Chow! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy rolls into Disney’s Hollywood Studiosin spring 2019. In this new show experience, you’ll come face to face with Lightning and learn from his years of experience on the track.
18. Outside the Racing Academy, you’ll get to meet Lightning McQueen’s speedy pal, Cruz Ramirez.
19. If you haven’t visited Walt Disney World recently, then there’s even more for you to explore and experience. Become an honorary toy at Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, travel to the bioluminescent planet of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or wish a fond farewell to IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth – the nighttime spectacular at Epcot – before its conclusion scheduled for the end of summer 2019.

New Experiences for Star Wars Day at Sea Revealed

The Disney geek in me is squealing as I read this information from Disney!  We will be experiencing this in person & sharing our journey with you in February.  What’s not to love about a Star Wars Cruise by Disney?

Brand new experiences featuring the Dark Side, the Resistance, the droids and more are coming to the Disney Fantasy when Star Wars Day at Sea returns on 15 special sailings this January through April. Check out some of the new out-of-this-galaxy experiences that are setting sail:

The Dark Side

• • To kick off Star Wars Day at Sea celebrations, in a one-time experience the night before the event, Darth Vader and Stormtroopers will march into the ship’s atrium for an Imperial takeover.
  • Kylo Ren will appear in “Jedi Training Academy,” where young Jedi-in-training summon their courage and the Force to face off against Darth Vader and Kylo Ren.

The Resistance

• • Rey will take the stage in the “Summon the Force” nighttime deck show that celebrates great moments from across the Star Wars galaxy including iconic characters and new favorites, complete with an epic fireworks finale accompanied by John Williams’ iconic music.
  • In “Porgs Onboard! Scavenger Hunt,” Chewbacca needs help tracking the Porgs that have been wreaking havoc throughout the ship. You can help find and decode secret messages to solve a ship-wide quest and be greeted by everyone’s favorite Wookiee at the end of your adventure.
  • In the days leading up to the epic celebration, you can check out all of the Star Wars  feature films in the Buena Vista Theatre, culminating in a showing of the newest film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

Fun for the whole family

• • New in 2018, you are guaranteed a time to meet and take photographs with C-3PO and R2-D2, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Before you even step onboard, you have the chance to reserve these character encounters online under the My Disney Cruise section of disneycruise.com.
  • You can step into the saga and pose with a life-size replica of Han Solo frozen in Carbonite, as well as other cool Star Wars-themed backdrops.
  • In Star Wars  Drawing Academy, you can learn to draw some of your favorite Star Wars characters and a new character from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
  • Star Wars-themed interactive games, trivia and activities for the whole family will be hosted by Disney cruise staff on the pool deck and in the D Lounge.

These are the droids you’re looking for

• • C-3PO will make an appearance in Star Wars: Command Post in Disney’s Oceaneer Club. During a special activity, children train to be members of the Resistance and fend off the First Order. C-3PO pays a visit to check on their training and further human-cyborg relations.
  • Droid Racing is a fast-paced activity that the whole family will enjoy where Guests can race BB-Unit droids around a course in the ship’s atrium.
  • In a hands-on activity for families, everyone tests their skills to become master droid builders and create an intergalactic droid.

All of these cool new experiences are included in a Star Wars Day at Sea cruise, and just some of the ways you can celebrate the legendary adventures and iconic characters from the Star Wars galaxy.

New Spaces Announced for the Disney Magic in March 2018

The Disney Magic is getting another update and will debut brand new spaces onboard in March 2018.

An Enchanted Dining Experience just for families

It looks like Cariocca’s will be getting a new look and Tangled will be the inspiration for the new dining space.  This will pair perfectly with the unique Tangled musical performances on each Disney Magic sailing.  This regal ballroom, set in the royal castle, will be lit by floating lanterns and filled with live entertainment celebrating Rupunzel’s Birthday & her return to the kingdom.  Even the princess herself will greet guests along with the mischievous thugs from the Snuggley Duckling.

Redesigned Retreat Just for Teens

The Vibe, a teen club for guests ages 14-17, is also getting a fresh look.  The new trendy urban loft environment will offer cool activities like a DJ spin-off and movie making.  The teens and their friends will also be able to enjoy coffee and smoothie bar, as well as video and virtual reality games.

Redesigned Exclusively for Adults

Cove Cafe’ will be redesigned in a sophisticated tropical style providing the perfect place for adults to relax and sip a specialty coffee or tea throughout the day.  This adults only retreat will also offer wine, cocktails and light bites during the evening hours.  These beverages and food come with a minimal charge to guests.

The Rainforest Room in Senses Spa will also be redesigned and for the younger set Club Disney Junior will be added to the Oceaneer Club.

Since the ship will not be going into dry dock for these changes & will continue to sail, guests onboard will face some changes in their activities & dining rotation.  Disney has released information that lets guests know their evening meal in Carioca’s will be replaced by the Cabanas restaurant & will still be served table service style.

Disney World App Now Offers Even More Convenience with the new Update.

Disney has just launched a new version of their “My Disney Experience” app with brand new features that add more convenience to your stay.

I’ve been hoping for years that there would be an easier way to keep track of our dining credits when we are on the Disney Dining Plan.  Now when guests stay at a Disney Resort hotel They can see their remaining dining plan meals and snacks right through their “My Disney Experience” app.  On top of that guests can keep track of things that they have charged to their Disney Resort hotel account.

For all my Disney coupons, who save money by using Disney gift cards, bring your Disney gift cards with you, charge purchases on your MagicBand & then use your cards to pay your Resort hotel account at guest services.  You get the perks of using Disney gift cards & you don’t have to risk losing them in the parks.

Epcot – One Adventure ends & a new one Begins in August

The Universe of Energy has been open since October of 1982.  During it’s 35 years in operation it educated people about the energy around our world.  We always thought of this lengthy attraction as a way to get out the the rain or cool of for a nap on a hot day.

It has recently been announced at D23, that the Universe of Energy attraction will be closing on August 13th, 2017 and I can’t help but look forward to what has been announced to replace it.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will be inside the current Universe of Energy building.  Disney has not released an opening date for the attraction but Disney Parks Blog says “Epcot’s brand new E-ticket attraction will be based on the rockin’ and action-packed world of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and is the next step in how guests can encounter these characters at the Walt Disney World Resort. Epcot just may be the perfect place for a “Guardians”-inspired attraction”

Mission: SPACE has been under refurbishment recently and now we know why…

in just a few weeks, guests will be able to enjoy new adventures at Mission: SPACE – an updated Orange Mission (more intense training) and a brand-new Green Mission (Less intense experience).

Disney Parks Blog states “The updated Orange Mission will make an even more visually stunning trip to Mars, while the all-new Green adventure will allow guests to blast off for an orbital adventure around planet Earth.”

Which mission will you take the next time you visit this attraction?

One other announcement has been made for Epcot at D23 and that is the opening of a Ratatouille inspired attraction in the France Pavilion. Guests will be able to shrink to Remy’s size and scurry to safety in a dazzling chase across a kitchen with the sights, sounds and smells of Gusteau’s legendary Parisian restaurant.  According to Disney Parks blog this attraction will open sometime in 2021.

Disney Cruise Line Planning THREE new Ships!

Last year  Disney Cruise Line announced that it would build 2 new ships for their fleet.  These ships were scheduled to set sail in 2021 & 2023.  Well… recently they have told the public that they would be adding not two but three new ships, nearly doubling the size of their current fleet.  The additional ship is scheduled to set sail in 2022.  This means that Disney would have a new ship every year for 3 years in a row, beginning in 2021.

“We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said.

The three new ships will be powered by clean-burning liquefied natural gas and be the same size – approximately 135,000 gross tons with about 1,250 guest staterooms planned – which is a little larger than the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy.  The ships’ names & design are still in development at this time.

Disney boasts that these new ships will “usher in the next generation of innovative cruise experiences designed especially for families that will transform the art-of-cruising and take guests on adventures in a way never dreamed of before.”

Personally having cruised on all 4 of Disney’s ships, I can say that the Disney Cruise Line experience is nothing short of luxurious.  I have to wonder with these new ships, where will Disney Cruise Line take us to next?  Will the original ships set sail in China, Australia or any number of new destinations.  Maybe one of the original ships will be a part of the Adventures by Disney itineraries in the future?  Will this possibly bring down the price of the Disney Cruise Line experience or just create more hype for this highly sought after cruise experience?  This all remains to be seen.

Change in security for Magic Kingdom beginning April 3rd

Yesterday the Orlando Sentinel published information regarding changes in security for the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World; the changes will begin on April 3rd, 2017.  Guests arriving at the Transportation and Ticket Center will now go through security at the TTC before they board the monorail or ferryboat to the Magic Kingdom.

Guests arriving at the Magic Kingdom by resort bus will go through security check points that will be located closer to the bus stop area.   The resorts that are located on the monorail (The contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian) will have will have security check points at the monorail stations in these hotels.

It remains to be seen if once implemented, these changes will ease the congestion at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom.  I’m hoping it does.
