Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is amazing with larger than life characters that celebrate the films we all know and love. Read through for 10 fun facts about this amazing resort.

Art-Of-Animation-Check-In-2

If you are dreaming of a Walt Disney World vacation, experience free planning at no added cost and it all starts with a free quote HERE

1. Art of Animation resort has 4 separate wings each themed with beloved characters from The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Nemo and Cars.

2. You can learn how to draw Disney characters with character artists in the lobby.  This is a great activity for the kids to enjoy while the parents check-in at the first resort to offer check-in pods instead of the traditional check-in desks.

3. The family suites in this resort sleep up to 6 guests and outnumber the standard rooms.  The family suites have 3 separate sleeping areas, 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette.  You will find the family suites in the Lion King, Nemo and Cars wings of the resort.

4. The quick service food court, Landscape of Flavors, is the first food court to use washable plates and utensils instead of disposable. At Landscape of Flavors you can customize your meals when they are made. The food offered at this quick service restaurant is unique and ranges from Italian to Asian to well known American dishes.

5. Lobby Artwork: The artwork on the walls of the lobby is not just artwork, it takes guests on a journey from concept art to completion.  When guests enter the lobby the floors are black & whit and then change to a giant color palate.  The lights behind the check-in area are designed to be the color palate behind the artwork on the opposite wall.  Next time you visit this fantastic lobby, take a look at the journey that Ursela, from the Little Mermaid, has taken since she was sketched on paper to when she was put into the animated film.

6. The Big Blue Pool is the feature pool, themed after fining Nemo. It holds over 310,000 gallons of water andis the largest pool on Disney property outside of the water parks.  It has a dozen underwater speakers where you can listen to music and characters from Nemo., but speakers can only be heard when you submerse your head under the water.  Yes, you have to get your head wet.  lol

7. The Cars wing has life-sized characters from the movie including Lightening McQueen, Doc, Mater and even some that you cannot see in the parks including Fillmore, Sarge, Luigi & Ramon.  These provide wonderful photo opportunities for Cars fans of all ages.

8. The Art of Animation Resort buildings are almost a reverse mirror image of the building layout at Pop Century Resort.  The resort is also located just across Generation Gap Bridge from Pop Century.  If you would like to explore another well-themed value resort, just walk across the bridge.  They also have a wonderful pizza option in the Pop food court.
COMING SOON: on the left hand side of the Generation Gap Bridge, the Disney Skyliner gondola system will take guests on gondolas that seat 12, from Art of Animation & Pop Century to Epcot & Hollywood Studios.

9. All of the standard rooms, that sleep 4 guests, are located in the Little Mermaid wing and this wing does not have any family suites.

10. There is a running trail that makes a complete loop around the lake and between both the Art of Animation Resort and the Pop Century Resort.

Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort – Our Family Review

When Universal opened Diagon Alley and Cabana Bay Beach Resort, in the same year, we knew we had to schedule another visit.  It has been long overdue that Universal Orlando have a value priced resort as part of their vacation packages.  We were thrilled to be able to try it out and October was the perfect time of year for us to visit.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort

When we pulled into the drive, we were greeted by the bright, tropical sign that was aligned with the retro-theme of the resort.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort Lobby

The lobby is saturated in color and refreshing with well arranged seating and palm trees that grow in the very center.

Although Cabana Bay offers family suites complete with kitchenettes, we opted for a standard room, for our family of 4, on this visit.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort, standard room

The retro style rooms were spacious and bright.  The floor to ceiling windows had views of either the parking lot of the pool for an extra cost.  There was plenty of space for luggage and even one of the largest closets I have seen in the value class of resorts.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort, standard room

The bathrooms allowed plenty of space with the sink on the outside to better accommodate families on a busy schedule.  It is always nice to be able to have one family member in the shower & another able to brush their teeth.

Of course we were hungry after we arrived so we decided to try out the Bayliner Diner.  There were multiple food choices and even refillable drink mugs available.  There was a plethora of indoor seating as well as comfortable outdoor seating, somewhat near the pool with the lazy river.

Now for our very favorite part of this resort….  the swimming pools.

Cabana Bay has 2 large swimming pools.  Both have their advantages.  The pool nearest the Bayliner Diner includes a lazy river area and offers movies by the pool at night.  The water in the lazy river is warm & a joy to float, play & relax in.  You can purchase large float tubes to float in, but we preferred to be down more under the water than floating on top of it.  The other pool has a water slide, splash pad and even private cabanas for rent.  The water slide is fun for all ages.  We stood at the bottom of the slide to greet the kiddos when they got to the bottom.  You will get wet by the waterfall at the bottom of the slide.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort, sand by the pool
Cabana Bay Beach Resort, relaxing, sandy area by the pool.

Each pool had plenty of seating to relax in the sun, with the softest sand I have ever sunk my feet into at a resort pool area.  Both pools had a zero entry area where the kids enjoyed wading out for some splash time.  Life jackets are provided for your kids free of charge.

Cabana Bay has so much to do inside the resort.  After arriving by plane, we easily spent the last half of our day with the entertainment provided at the resort.  Not only do they have a large fitness club and game room, they also have a bowling alley.

When it was time to visit the theme parks, the quickest way to get there, from Cabana Bay, was by bus.  The buses ran constantly from a single stop at Cabana Bay to a single stop at Universal’s City Walk.  From there you walk through City Walk to either of the park entrances.  We never had to wait long for a bus to arrive and many times they were lined up waiting to be loaded.  One advantage of staying in Cabana Bay, along with the other Universal Resorts, is that we were allowed entry into one theme park an hour before the general public.  This is a great time to ride those attractions that will have long wait times later on in the day.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Cabana Bay Beach Resort and will definitely stay here again in the future.  The kids are looking forward to what they have declared “the funnest pools in the Universal Resorts”.  For more pictures visit my pinterest gallery:  https://www.pinterest.com/PixieAdventures/universal-cabana-bay-beach-resort/

A few more details:
Check in time: 4:00pm – If you arrive earlier, you may store your luggage with the bell desk
Check out time: 11:00am – You can request a later check out or store your luggage with the bell desk.
Parking fees, for people staying at Cabana Bay, are $12+tax  a night, per car.
