When Universal opened Diagon Alley and Cabana Bay Beach Resort, in the same year, we knew we had to schedule another visit. It has been long overdue that Universal Orlando have a value priced resort as part of their vacation packages. We were thrilled to be able to try it out and October was the perfect time of year for us to visit.
When we pulled into the drive, we were greeted by the bright, tropical sign that was aligned with the retro-theme of the resort.
The lobby is saturated in color and refreshing with well arranged seating and palm trees that grow in the very center.
Although Cabana Bay offers family suites complete with kitchenettes, we opted for a standard room, for our family of 4, on this visit.
The retro style rooms were spacious and bright. The floor to ceiling windows had views of either the parking lot of the pool for an extra cost. There was plenty of space for luggage and even one of the largest closets I have seen in the value class of resorts.
The bathrooms allowed plenty of space with the sink on the outside to better accommodate families on a busy schedule. It is always nice to be able to have one family member in the shower & another able to brush their teeth.
Of course we were hungry after we arrived so we decided to try out the Bayliner Diner. There were multiple food choices and even refillable drink mugs available. There was a plethora of indoor seating as well as comfortable outdoor seating, somewhat near the pool with the lazy river.
Now for our very favorite part of this resort…. the swimming pools.
Cabana Bay has 2 large swimming pools. Both have their advantages. The pool nearest the Bayliner Diner includes a lazy river area and offers movies by the pool at night. The water in the lazy river is warm & a joy to float, play & relax in. You can purchase large float tubes to float in, but we preferred to be down more under the water than floating on top of it. The other pool has a water slide, splash pad and even private cabanas for rent. The water slide is fun for all ages. We stood at the bottom of the slide to greet the kiddos when they got to the bottom. You will get wet by the waterfall at the bottom of the slide.
Each pool had plenty of seating to relax in the sun, with the softest sand I have ever sunk my feet into at a resort pool area. Both pools had a zero entry area where the kids enjoyed wading out for some splash time. Life jackets are provided for your kids free of charge.
Cabana Bay has so much to do inside the resort. After arriving by plane, we easily spent the last half of our day with the entertainment provided at the resort. Not only do they have a large fitness club and game room, they also have a bowling alley.
When it was time to visit the theme parks, the quickest way to get there, from Cabana Bay, was by bus. The buses ran constantly from a single stop at Cabana Bay to a single stop at Universal’s City Walk. From there you walk through City Walk to either of the park entrances. We never had to wait long for a bus to arrive and many times they were lined up waiting to be loaded. One advantage of staying in Cabana Bay, along with the other Universal Resorts, is that we were allowed entry into one theme park an hour before the general public. This is a great time to ride those attractions that will have long wait times later on in the day.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Cabana Bay Beach Resort and will definitely stay here again in the future. The kids are looking forward to what they have declared “the funnest pools in the Universal Resorts”. With a few Harry Potter fans in my house, the opening of Diagon Alley in the summer of 2014 is highly anticipated.
Hogsmeade is currently open in the Islands of Adventure Universal Theme Park and Diagon Alley will be completed in the summer of 2014 along with the new 1950’s Beach Themed Resort, Cabana Bay.
The new Cabana Bay Resort will include 900 family suites and 900 guest rooms. With a bowling alley, 2 pools & even a lazy river your family will be constantly entertained at this new resort.
Once the new Diagon Alley part of Universal theme park is opened, guests with a park hopper pass will be able to ride the Hogwart’s Express between Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. The Hogwart’s Express will run from Kings Cross Station, platform 9 3/4 and from the Hogsmead Station. The train promises to be just like the film in every detail.
Diagon Alley will have wondrous new shops, restaurants and even include Nocturn Alley from the dark side of Harry Potter. If you are brave enough to enter Nocturn Alley, you can purchase things like your very own Death Eater Mask.
I can say from personal experience that the dining experience at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade was authentic and reflective of what I would have pictured it to be. Now you will be able to dine at the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. I can’t wait to try it out.
Perhaps one of the largest, most popular attractions in the new Diagon Alley will be Harry Potter’s Escape from Gringots bank. This new attraction will delight and thrill park guests in a multi sensory experience. Perhaps this new attraction will spread out the crowds from the popular Forbidden Journey ride in Hogsmeade.
whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is defiantly worth a visit for any family. If you are not a fan when you arrive, you will likely be a fan when you leave.
Contact me to help you book your next trip to Universal Orlando. If you book a trip at one of their resorts you not only get a front of the line pass but also early admission into Hogsmeade.
