Enzo’s Hideaway Lunch Review

After feasting our way through the holidays & being spoiled by all of the good food, we couldn’t just end our holiday week with McDonald’s. We had to have some gourmet, food at Walt Disney World. We chose to have lunch at Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar in Disney Springs. Contrary to the title, this family friendly atmosphere is stunning and tells an intriguing story that does not disappoint.

The story of this restaurant refers to Maria & Enzo’s Restaurante as well as The Edison in Disney Springs and it goes like this…

While inspecting the building prior to taking full ownership, Enzo discovered a long-hidden place below the terminal that connected to abandoned sections of the next-door power plant. To Enzo’s astonishment, he came across a Prohibition-era hideaway where a team of flying rum-runners once gathered. Evidence of smuggler activity remained, untouched for decades. Enzo decided that the space might make an irresistible spot for dining and socializing to highlight the family recipes he grew up on, highlighting specialties from Rome and nearby regions.

An Italian Restaurant & Speakeasy, this restaurant is a fun & novel place to dine in Disney Springs and I will definitely visit it again. Following it’s name & story line, it is a bit of a hidden gem that can be easy to get into even when you don’t have a reservation.

Overview

Location: Disney Springs
Hours:
lunch 11:30am – 3:30pm
dinner 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Dining Style: Table Service, Italian food
Atmosphere: Mysterious & edgy
My review of this experience: 5 out of 5 stars

Review from our Experience
After enjoying a movie in Disney Springs, we decided at the last minute to have lunch at Enzo’s Hideaway. They were happy to accommodate us, with no wait, even though we did not have a reservation. Reservations are recommended, but this restaurant is a good place to start if you do not.
I was immediately impressed with the theme of this restaurant as we rounded the corner into the hideaway. It is what you would imagine a speakeasy to look like starting with the slot in the entrance door through the brick entrance, complete with graffiti on the walls, and ending with the hidden tunnel in the back. Yes, it DOES have a hidden tunnel where you can imagine the rum runners making a quick exit from the police during prohibition. We had a wonderful history lesson with our children over this meal. 😉
About the food
– The Bread service was good with optional oil & I like to dip my bread in oil. The oil was very authentic and maybe a little bitter to my palate.
– The Classic Lasagna was cheesy & a very large portion. It was cooked well and the flavor was blended.
– The Branzino or Sea Bass, was tender & flaky with a slight lemon flavor. The grapes and green beans were complimentary to the fish. My husband did not care for the green beans because they were sauteed and remained a little crisp.
– The Roasted Chicken Saltimbacca was my favorite. This delicious chicken was cooked to perfection and well seasoned with a tender inside and slightly crispy on the outside skin. The vegetables with it were all perfect from the tender artichokes to the broccoli and a nice flavor was added with a few capers. The entire plate was a scrumptious medley of flavors that blended well.
– Chocolate Ice Cream was for dessert for my youngest & he loved the waffle chip that came with it the most.
– Of course I had to try the Canoli and it did not disappoint. I wanted to lick the plate after finishing it, but thought that might be frowned upon.

We finished every bit of food on our plates and since we just consumed two buckets of popcorn at the movie prior to this lunch, that tells you that the food must have been good.

The service seemed slightly European in nature. We had to ask every time we wanted more water and they only filled the one glass. Other than that the service was prompt and with a smile in true Disney fashion.

I see this place as the perfect guys getaway or bachelor get together before a wedding. It can also be a little on the romantic side and even fun for a girlfriend celebration. Any history buff will get a huge kick out of seeing this & if your kids are missing school they can tell the history teacher that they got to learn about a speakeasy when they were on vacation.

What I would change for next time
The only thing I might change for next time is not filling up on popcorn first so that I have room to try the Cannoli Sundae that looked so inviting for dessert.

Additional Information
To complete your visit to this restaurant, you have to find the ‘hidden tunnel’. If you are having trouble finding it, just make a trip to the restroom. 😉

Join Snow White for a Meal at Artist Point this Winter

This winter a new character dining experience will debut at the Artist Point restaurant in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.  You will be able to meet four very unique characters including Snow White, Grumpy, Dopey & the Evil Queen herself.  A prix fix menu will be offered making me think that this will be a signature dining experience requiring two table service credits if you are on the Disney Dining Plan.

No official opening dates have been announced & reservations are not yet available.  Disney released the following information:

Storybook Dining at Artist Point will invite guests to venture into an Enchanted Forest-like setting inspired by Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” There, you’ll enjoy a delicious meal of fantastic fare with visits from Snow White, Dopey and Grumpy. Delightful music and activities will help bring the classic fairytale to life, and they’ll even have an opportunity for an encounter with The Queen.

Meeting Snow White would be fun, Dopey and Grumpy are guaranteed to be a hit, but I will admit the opportunity to encounter the queen makes me the most excited.

This unique experience is sure to be popular and reservations will quickly fill once they open.  If you are one of my guests & would like me to assist you in looking for a reservation, please contact me and I will be happy to try & get a reservation as soon as I see that they are open.

2017 Epcot Candlelight Processional

This fully immersive experience is part of Epcot’s Holidays Around the World in 2017 and runs from 11/24/17 through 12/30/17.  The amazing telling of the Christmas story boasts a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir and has become a holiday tradition for my family.

Candlelight-Processional-2017

This year 13 celebrity narrators are performing at the event and there are 6 brand new narrators. Several of which I am personally excited to watch.

  • NEW! Laurie Hernandez – November 24 to 26, 2017
  • NEW! Matt Bomer – November 27 to 28, 2017
  • Ana Gastayer – November 29 to 30, 2017
  • Whoopi Goldberg – December 1 to 3, 2017
  • NEW! Pat Sajak – December 4 to 5, 2017
  • Jodi Benson – December 6 to 8, 2017
  • NEW! Kurt Russell – December 9 to 11, 2017
  • NEW! Warwick Davis – December 12 to 14, 2017
  • Trace Adkins – December 15 to 17, 2017
  • Neil Patrick Harris – December 18 to 21, 2017
  • NEW! CCH Pounder – December 22 to 24, 2017
  • Jaci Velasquez – December 25 to 27, 2017
  • Chandra Wilson – December 28 to 30, 2017

The performances are every night at the America Gardens Theater at 5:00pm, 6:45pm & 8:15pm

If you want a good seat, you may want to consider reserving a Candlelight Processional Dining Package.  Find details on the dining packages HERE

Here is my video from last year with Steven Curtis Chapman as the narrator:

Because we are ultimate fans of the Guardian’s of the Galaxy series, we are thrilled that we have been able to grab a dining reservation, with preferred seating, to watch Kurt Russell perform.  I would also like to try out standby seating to watch Jodi Benson.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the holiday season than with the biblical telling of the Christmas story surrounded by unsurpassed talent & a celebrity narrator.  What are your plans for the season?  Who are you most excited to watch?  Let me know in the comments.

What in Walt Disney World… are Smokehouse Nachos?

Perhaps you are wondering around Disney Springs and may be headed for a show at Cirque or a Movie at the AMC Theater & you are a little hungry, but… you have a later dining reservation & you don’t want to eat too much.  The Smokehouse Nachos are the perfect choice for you to share as a snack or make a meal out of a single serving.  We’ve made lunch for our family of four out of two orders of Nachos and four drinks.
disney-springs-smokehouse-nachos
These delicious & loaded nachos are very filling  and you have two choices:
1. Smokehouse Nachos with Pulled Pork: (on left above) Crispy fried tri-color corn tortilla chips topped with house-made cheese sauce, avocado lime crema, pickled jalapenos, fresh-made pico de gallo and cilantro with pulled smoked pork
2. Smokehouse Nachos with Pulled Chicken: (on right above) these are almost identical to the Pulled Pork Nachos above with pulled smoked chicken instead of the pork.

You can find these Nachos at The Smokehouse located on the West Side of Disney Springs near the House of Blues.  The cost is $9.99 for each order of Nachos and adult soda’s are $2.25; a child soda is $1.99.  The soda’s are not really large, but were large enough that the ice began to melt before we drank them completely.
disney-springs-smokehouse-nachos2
This is a walk up counter service location & there is no seating directly in the front of the building.  So eat this snack while you are on the run or find seating on the patio of the House of Blues or around Disney Springs.
The smokehouse also serves other menu items like Smoked Turkey legs for $9.99, pulled chicken sandwich for $11.99 and children’s items like a mini smoked pulled park slider for $6.99.

Overall I enjoyed this affordable & filling snack for sharing.  The Disney Quick Service Meal Plan is accepted at this location as of the date of this being published.

Next time you are searching for a filling snack in Disney Springs, consider trying The Smokehouse Nachos.

My name is Melissa and I am a Florida local.  You will catch me in the Disney parks almost every weekend.  I enjoy being a part of all of the new attractions and I can never get enough of the delicious food that Disney has to offer.  If you would like some assistance booking and planning your next Disney vacation, visit www.PixieDustAdventures.com for a no obligation quote & FREE, detailed planning assistance.

Disneyland Dining: Pre-Paid Meal Vouchers is What is offered in Place of the Dining Plan at WDW

Disneyland Pre-Paid Meal Vouchers

A major part of our trips, to the Disney theme parks and beyond, is eating our way through our vacation.  Disney offers some of the most mouth watering meals paired with experiences not found anywhere else.  You can dine with characters or in a romantic setting with a loved one.  Either way, the food and ambiance are a ‘not to be missed’ part of every Disney vacation.

Disneyland, in particular, does not offer a dining plan with their vacation packages.  Many of us, that have been to Walt Disney World, have become accustomed to that all-inclusive feel that the Disney Dining Plan offers us.  What Disneyland packages do offer is Disney Dining Vouchers available for pre-purcahse with your vacation package.

If eating with Disney characters is a priority on your next visit to Disneyland, then you should consider the pre-paid meal vouchers.

– Meal vouchers are non-refundable
– If for some reason you are not able to get a reservation, you can use the meal vouchers to purchase food, in a single location, in Disneyland Park or California Adventure Park.  You can redeem them for up to the amount that the voucher is worth.
– These meal vouchers can be added at any time.  If added after your final payment, they must be paid for in full and will be subject to the standard change and cancellation policies.
