After signing up for your MagicBands, through the My Disney Experience website, you will want to be able to take full advantage of everything that they offer. One of the things that the new MagicBand system offers is the ability to sign up for FastPasses in advance of your arrival, eliminating the need to be at the park gates for rope drop to rush in and get your fastPass to a popular attraction before they are all distributed.
FastPass Review: The original fastpass is a printed priority ticket to select, popular Disney attractions that normally have very long waits. To get said fastPass you would need to go to the FastPass ticket booth, at your desired attraction, and insert your park ticket or room key and the FastPass ticket booth will print a FastPass ticket that displays a return time range for you to get in the fastPass line for the attraction. The fastPass lines are normally short since this is Disney’s way of scheduling an appointment for a limited number of park guests to ride the attraction in a certain time frame. The printed fastPass tickets allow you to only hold one FastPass ticket at any given time. In order to get a second fastpass ticket you will need to wait until the earliest return time printed on the ticket at which time you can print a second fastPass ticket. The other downfall is that FastPass tickets to certain attractions, like Toy Story Mania in Hollywood Studios, will sell out within hours of park opening. Even if you arrive early you may be issued a fastPass with a late return time and if you arrive much after park opening, on a busy day, all of the FastPass tickets for the day may be already distributed.
FastPass+ Review: (currently in testing; things may change as time goes on) The new Fastpass+ allows you to schedule FastPasses to 3 attractions in a single park per day. You can schedule these FastPasses up to 60 days prior to your arrival in Disney World on Disney’s My Disney Experience website using your computer or the My Disney Experience app. I personally feel that the app is currently a little on the slow side and I prefer to use my computer for the initial reservations. The downfall is that you can only reserve 3 Fastpasses per day but the benefit is that if you don’t arrive right at park opening you can be assured that your Fastpass+ reservations are already made for you. In addition you no longer have to worry about a FastPass times overlapping any of your dining reservations because you have more control over the exact ride time.
Now I am going to take you through the process of making Fastpass+ reservations using the My Disney Experience website on my computer.
You will first need to set up your account by going to: www.startyourdisneyexpereince.com if you have not already registered. Log in & then click the My Disney Experience logo in the top right hand corner to get to the home page. From here you can Link existing reservations & tickets if you have not already done this. Once everything is linked you can click on “Make FastPass+ Selections” on the right hand side of the page.
STEP ONE: Select A Day
The first step is to select the date that you would like to make FastPass+ selections for. Then you can check “select” below the park that you are going to be in. Below you can see all of the parks that are scheduled on my dates because I have previously entered using My Disney Experience prior to beginning my FastPass+ selections. After your date and park are selected click “next” at the bottom.
STEP TWO: Select Party Members
Now you will need to select the individual party members that you would like to make FastPass+ reservations for. If some of your party members are not showing up on this page, it is because the reservations have not been properly linked. After selecting your party members, by clicking on the check mark left of their name, you will click the “next” button.
STEP THREE: Select A Park
Now select the theme park where you would like to make your Fastpass+ reservations for the date displayed at the top of the screen then click “next”. I have selected Animal Kingdom.
STEP FOUR: Select Your FastPass+ Experiences
Now you are given a choice of FastPass enabled attractions & experiences that you can make reservations for. You may chose any 3 attractions on the list by checking the check marks. You will see brief descriptions of each attraction and their location on the park map on the right. After making your 3 selections click “next”
Your selected experiences are displayed as shown below. If you haven’t noticed yet, you will see a blue “Fastpicks” button at the bottom of the page; you can use this button to allow Disney to make FastPass+ attraction selections and times for you if you prefer.
Prioritize your FastPass+ Selections: If you have a preference, you can rearrange the order in which you ride your chosen attractions; you can do this in the top right hand corner of the page as shown in the picture below. Simply click on the up & down arrows on the left side of the attraction name to re-order them. You can also click on the little minus symbol on the right of the attraction name to remove it from your selections. I have made my selections based on the fast that I wanted to start out day in the park with a more mild attraction than Expedition Everest.
STEP FIVE: Select a FastPass+ Option
At this point you can select between 4 different options of times to ride the attractions. Above the attractions listed you will see the different options that you can chose from. Click on each tab to see the different time selections. I chose option B for our family; we will be arriving at Disney World in the morning this day so I didn’t want to start our FastPass times too early. Not only did I want to begin with a more mild ride for our first ride I also wanted to be sure to ride Expedition Everest prior to having a large lunch. So below is the option that I chose. You are not in any way stuck with these exact times. You can later edit the times of specific attractions.
STEP SIX: FastPass+ Selections Confirmed
After making your selections you will be directed to the screen that confirms and displays your selections. If you are happy with your selections and times, you can then click “done” or “plan another day” at the bottom of the screen. If you would like to make changes to an individual attraction, you simply click the “make change” button below the attraction name and go through a similar process as you did to make your original selections.
Now that you have all of your Fastpass+ attractions scheduled for your day in a Disney park, all you need to do is strap on your MagicBand and line up in the line dedicated for FastPass+ holders during your scheduled time. You will need to scan your MagicBand prior to entering the FastPass+ line to confirm your reservation and possibly one additional time before getting on an attraction. Remember that planning is part of the fun. For me the planning just adds additional excitement prior to the actual start of my vacation.
